Preface
This page presents a very short abstract from a much LONGER and FAR MORE DETAILED etymology of the word "Church" which I've done and you can see at your leisure linked here. The ROOT for which it is CLAIMED that the word Church is derived is the Greek Word Ekklesia. Without going into too much detail here I'm going to demonstrate that is TOTALLY NOT TRUE. Again, avoiding all the SERPENTINE twists and turns for this DECEPTION spanning over 2 MILLENNIA which I go over in quite a bit of detail in this much longer and far more tedious study, I want to make this abstract as short and easy to comprehend as possible. So I will merely mention some of the details I go over there like FACT that the Hebrew words Adat and Kahal are translated into the LXX (Greek "Old Testament" a.k.a. the "Septuagint") relatively interchangeably as Synagog OR Ekklesia.
In fact the Greek word Synagog is used to translate 19 different Hebrew Words including BOTH Kahal and Adat and the Greek word Ekklesia is used similarly to translate 9 different Hebrew words, most of which are a form of the Hebrew word Kahal. Again, these Greek Words are used relatively INTERCHANGEABLY in the Greek LXX to refer to the English concept of "gathering", "assembling" or "congregate" together. This gets even a bit more confusing when Jerome translates the 2 Greek words VARIOUSLY into Latin with NO CONSISTENCY. So he usually translates both of them into Latin as the English equivalents of "gather" "congregate" or "assemble", etc. but with no consistency or rule for why. Sometimes he translates the word synagogue OR ecclesia DIRECTLY into the Latin vulgate where it occurs and other times he chooses not to. An interesting example of this is the first time the word Synagog is used in the LXX is in Gen. 1:9 for which he Jerome uses the Latin word "congregentur" which the Catholic New Jerusalem Bible translates into English as "Mass" as follows:
God said, "Let the waters under heaven come together into a single MASS ("Synagogue" in the Greek LXX)..." Gen. 1:9 NJB
But Jerome also ADOPTED both of these Greek words (Synagog & Ecclesia) into the Latin Vulgate in certain places. In this page page We will only deal with the word Ecclesia (which is the Latin form of Ekklesia) where Jerome adopted it DIRECTLY from the Greek Text into his Latin Vulgate and which is translated into the English version of the Catholic Bible in order to get people to think about this DECEPTION and the POLITICAL FORMS it has taken over the Centuries. As I pointed out previously, William Tyndale was MURDERED (public execution by strangling) because he brought ATTENTION to this deception when he REFUSED to use the word Chirche (Church) in his English translation. A century later the Douey-Rheims Bible translated from the Latin Vulgate into English uses the word Church to REPLACE the Latin (loan word from Greek) Ecclesia (and "synagog") as "Church" into English in order to pretend they had nothing to hide.
So we will be dealing primarily with ONLY the places where the Greek Word Ekklesia ADOPTED by Jerome DIRECTLY into the Latin Vulgate as Ecclesia which is then translated directly into Englsih as "Church". Then we will ask a few simple questions to those who have always been DECEIVED to believe that Ekklesia is not a reference to Israel but means Church and the Church is not Israel. We will learn that the word Church is NOT from EITHER a BIBLICAL Greek word OR a Biblical Latin word origin but has been used to REPLACE the Biblical Greek word Ekklesia and Latin Ecclesia which are CLEARLY REFERENCES TO ISRAEL. I suggest it has been used by modern translators to DECEIVE people to believe that God is FINISHED with "Israel" and has a DIFFERENT PROGRAM for the "Church" exactly as God warned us to beware (Jer. 8:8). As I demonstrate from Romans 11, Ekklesia CAN NOT BE different from Israel! The Greek word Ekklesia is CLEARLY a reference to the "Israel of God" to which the unbelieving House of Judah SHALL BE GRAFTED BACK at the appointed time according to prophecies which Paul is establishing this DOCTRINE ON as its FOUNDATION.
The Greek word Ekklesia (and Latin Ecclesia and even the insertion of the word church after the Murder of Tyndale who brought attention to this DECEPTION) is clearly a reference to ISRAEL and not a SEPARATE PEOPLE. Therefore All Israel is the Ekklesia of God and will be SAVED (Rom. 11:25-26) and any "church" which is NOT Israel, will NOT BE SAVED but will be BROKEN OFF from the Promises of God given to Israel (Rom. 11:25-26).
The Latin loan word "ecclesia" is adopted 26 times by Jerome in his Latan Vulgate translation of the TaNaKh (Old Testament). In EVERY SINGLE CASE the Greek word used in the verse is EITHER Synagog OR Ekklesia. This DEMONSTRATES that Jerome saw no real distinction between the Greek word Synagog and Ekklesia...they refer to the SAME GATHERINGS of people which he translates as Ecclesia INTERCHANGEABLY. in the following link most of those places where Jerome uses the word ecclesia are translated as "Chucrch" with a couple of exceptions where the word congrgentur and tabernaculi are used by Jerome instead.
